Associate, Brightspace Foundation
Mary is a sustainability professional with over 20 years’ experience in local and regional government, education and charity sectors. Her career started in environmental management and promotions, and later focussed on environmental education and integrating sustainability policies into the Local Strategic Partnership.
She coordinated Herefordshire’s successful Eco Schools Award Scheme, before undertaking a secondment to regional government as West Midlands Sustainable Schools Co-ordinator. She worked with local authorities, regional partners and the Department for Education in developing regional and national sustainable schools strategies. She is still passionate about education for sustainable development.
Mary started with Brightspace in 2011, seconded from Herefordshire Council to lead a European funded project working with rural communities to develop sustainability projects through Neighbourhood Plans. She produced the counties first ‘Steps towards a 21st century Sustainable Herefordshire Community’ interactive online poster and accompanying Sustainable Communities Directory.
She has been an Associate with Brightspace since 2013, currently leading on the Sustainable Route Map, responsible for engaging partners in identifying local environmental, economic and social open data indicators.
She also works for Herefordshire Council, supporting corporate policies and projects on carbon reduction.
