Katie Eastaugh

CEO, The Cart Shed CIO

Aude Charillon

Katie went to Edinburgh Art College, then worked for a potter before setting up her own business. Making too many pots was isolating, so she became a part-time arts administrator, fundraiser, gardener, project manager, entrepreneur and eventually a mother.

Now, at 51, Katie finds herself navigating an extraordinary charity that really does transform lives. Seven years ago, the Cart Shed began as three volunteers, an idea, two benevolent land owners and a conviction that there was something unique and rather special to offer. Katie now leads a team of nine paid staff, 20+ regular volunteers and five trustees.

The Cart Shed combines the inherent health benefits of being outdoors, particularly in woodland, with the principals of occupational therapy, helping individuals who are experiencing an emotional imbalance in their lives to find meaning and a future. The organisation works with participants year-round, whatever the weather, to help them identify and overcome issues that prevent them from engaging successfully with life. In 2017 The Cart Shed was awarded The Queens Award for volunteering.
