Commissioning Manager, Adult Social Care and Health Directorate, Birmingham City Council
Austin has worked across a number of areas and portfolios at Birmingham City Council for 15 years. In his current role he is responsible for the commissioning work on prevention and communities, as well as holding a broader cross-council role leading work on asylum seekers, refugees and migrants. Working across lots of disciplines has taught Austin that it’s hard to do really useful things without having a good view and understanding of the relevant data and evidence. He has used data to explore trends around domestic abuse and social housing. More recently, Austin has worked with independent funders to look into questions about grant funding in Birmingham, primarily focusing on whether Birmingham get its fair share of funding and why there is more funding going into some areas and themes than others.
